Report: Tensions high, as Brock Osweiler and Bill O’Brien clash

Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler’s first season as the Houston Texans’ “franchise quarterback” is not going according to plan.

Despite boasting a 3-2 record heading into Week 6, Osweiler himself has failed to live up to the lofty expectations that were brought on by the massive free-agent deal he signed during the spring.

Now, less than two months into his first season with the Texans, it’s being reported that Osweiler is already at odds with head coach Bill O’Brien.

“According to the source, Osweiler objected to some play-calling decisions during a routine meeting reviewing the Week 5 loss — O’Brien took over play-calling duties a few weeks into the season — and he and the head coach subsequently had a loud charged interaction after that meeting that did not go unnoticed by others,” CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported Sunday.

That’s not necessarily going to quiet concerns that Houston made a Texas-sized mistake by doling out $72 million to a quarterback that had less than 10 career stars under his belt.

Houston may be in first place, but it appears that’s despite Osweiler’s best effort to cost the team games heading into Week 6.

Through five starts, the former Denver Broncos second-round pick is completing just 58 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and a whopping seven interceptions.

Whether it’s play-calling that has Osweiler struggling early in is Texans career is not yet known. Though, he’d likely be best served looking in the mirror rather than blaming the coaching staff.
