Report: Steelers believe Ben Roethlisberger will start Week 9

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger

It’s quite possible that the Pittsburgh Steelers will have to play without franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for just one game. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora, many within the Steelers’ organizations believe Big Ben will be able to go following the team’s Week 8 bye.

“With each day that passes I have a more difficult time finding anyone in the Steelers organization who does not believe Ben Roethlisberger is starting Week 9 against Baltimore,” La Canfora reported. “Barring a setback, that’s where we’re headed, and I bet he shows up big against the division rivals.”

Anyone that has witnessed the injuries Roethlisberger has played through during his career shouldn’t be surprised by this. Here’s a dude that played with such a bad injury in the playoffs last season that he couldn’t throw the ball more than 10 yards down the field.

Big Ben suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee back in Week 6. Initial indications were that he’d miss just one game. Though, various reports then surfaced that the Super Bowl-winning signal caller might miss up to six weeks. At that point, most figured his recovery time would be on the low end of a three-to-six week scale.

Coming off two consecutive losses, Pittsburgh checks into its bye with a 4-3 record and in first place in the AFC North. Getting its quarterback on the field in Week 9 has to be a major goal here.
