Report: Patriots RB Dion Lewis set to practice this week

The New England Patriots may be getting a big-time contributor back in the fold here soon. Having not played in a regular season game since tearing his ACL back in November of 2015, running back Dion Lewis is returning to practice this week.

Lewis was seemingly prepared to return fully healthy at the start of the season, but suffered a setback in rehab from the devastating injury during the summer. At that point, the Patriots were forced to place him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

This guaranteed that Lewis would miss the first two months of the season. Now, set to return to practice, the talented running back has a 21-day window to be activated.

Should that happen, the already dominant Patriots offense will receive another shot in the arm. In just seven games with the team last season, Lewis tallied 622 total yards and four touchdowns while averaging 7.3 yards per touch.

Once Lewis does return, he’ll likely split time with LeGarrette Blount in the backfield, forming a thunder and lightning tandem for quarterback Tom Brady and Co. on the ground.
