Report: Packers RB Eddie Lacy expected to miss ‘several weeks’

We now know why the Green Bay Packers traded for Knile Davis. Despite performing at a somewhat decent level in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Eddie Lacy was obviously not at 100 percent.

Limping around Lambeau all day due to what was being described as a sprained ankle, Lacy has not taken to the practice field since.

And for good reason.

Rapoport did not mention exactly what was ailing Lacy, but it’s safe to say there could be some structural damage to the ankle. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be out several weeks.

With James Starks also sidelined after undergoing knee surgery over the weekend, the Packers are in a precarious position at running back. Hence, the acquisition of Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Depending on how long Lacy is out, Davis could be given a real opportunity to prove that his recent lack of success in Kansas City wasn’t the start of a trend towards irrelevance.

As it relates to Lacy, he simply can’t stay healthy. A breakout performer for Green Bay in his first two NFL seasons, Lacy missed four games while dealing with a multitude of injuries last year.

Set to take on the Chicago Bears Thursday night, and in the midst of some obscene struggles in the passing game, Green Bay needs someone to step up on the ground. Unfortunately, it appears Lacy won’t be the guy for the foreseeable future.
