Report: Broncos RB C.J. Anderson could miss substantial time with knee injury

C.J. Anderson

It looked quite unassuming. Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson hobbled off the field early in his team’s win over the Houston Texans on Monday night. While Anderson was seen favoring his knee, the running back did return to the field after just a few plays.

When all was said and done for the night, Anderson ended up tallying a season-high 107 yards and a score on just 16 rush attempts.

Now, a couple days removed from suffering what seemed to be a minor injury, Anderson himself is looking for a second opinion. More than that, there’s some concern the injury might be more serious than first imagined.

“There is hope the injury could be minor in nature, although it’s also possible he could miss an extended period,” Mike Klis on 9 News in Denver reported on Wednesday. “Either way, the Broncos may be without their starting running back and leading rusher against the Chargers.”

We have already seen what seemed to be minor knee injuries turn out to be of the serious nature around the NFL this season. New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith’s torn ACL is a prime example of this.

While not jumping to conclusions, it is worrisome that Anderson isn’t yet able to practice. And the fact that he wants a second opinion leads us to believe there’s some real discomfort there.

Anderson has put up 565 total yards and five touchdowns in seven games on the season.
