Packers CB Sam Shields indicates he’s been placed on IR

The Green Bay Packers have been without Sam Shields since he suffered a Week 1 injury. The cornerback is now reportedly headed to injured reserved.

Tom Silverstein of The Milwaukee Journal Central reported that Shields was headed to injured reserve. Shields himself also posted on Instagram that he’s progressing and hopes to be back in eight weeks.

Green Bay’s pass defense has certainly suffered in Shields’ absence. The Packers’ defense is 21st in passing yards per game and 27th in yards per attempt.

Shields has defended 66 passes in his career and has hauled in 18 interceptions. In 2015, he defended 13 passes with three picks. Shields has been with the Packers since his rookie year of 2010 and has started 62 of his 80 NFL games, including every game he’s played since 2013.
