Memphis receiver’s car shot up following altercation with teammate

There are some stories that we see come across the wire that defy logic. You have to take a second and third look before realizing the story itself isn’t a fabrication.

This is one of those stories.

According to The Commercial Appeal in Tennessee, a car belonging to Memphis wide receiver Jae’Lon Oglesby was shot up Tuesday night, mere hours after Oglesby was in a physical altercation with teammate Kam Prewitt.

From the report.

“Oglesby told police that he was sitting in his apartment in the 600 block of Patterson Street at around 10 p.m. Tuesday when he heard several shots outside. He noticed bullet holes in two windows and both of the passenger-side doors of his Nissan Altima, as well as bullet damage to the roof of the car. While he did not see who fired the shots, Oglesby told police that he had a physical altercation with cornerback Kam Prewitt earlier in the day.”

That’s some downright scary stuff. At the very least, it’s nice to hear that Oglesby was not injured in the incident. In addition to this, the physical altercation between Oglesby and Prewitt earlier in the day could be nothing more than a coincidence.

“We are aware of the incident involving two student-athletes on the University of Memphis campus yesterday and are cooperating fully with the investigation,” athletic director Tom Bowen said in a statement.

Memphis head coach Mike Norvell indicated Wednesday afternoon that the program and the college were still at the “evaluation stage” of the process.

Oglesby, a sophomore, was a four-star recruit out of high school. Meanwhile, Prewitt is a red-shirt freshman and has not appeared in a game this season. He was previously suspended by the program for an undisclosed rules violation.
