Mike Mularkey: DeMarco Murray getting MRI on toe

The Tennessee Titans have rocked opposing defenses this year with double thunder attack that features veteran DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry. The duo combined to rush for 183 yards and two touchdowns on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During the game, however, Murray injured his toe. Head coach Mike Mularkey told media on Friday that the running back would be getting a precautionary MRI on the injured toe, noting the team does not think it’s serious.

While the injury is not considered serious at this time, the fact Murray is getting an MRI leaves the shadow of doubt that it might prove more serious than initially thought.

That’s certainly what happened to the Denver Broncos and running back C.J. Anderson last week. During his outstanding performance against the Houston Texans, Anderson banged up his knee but came back to finish with 107 yards. Afterwards, however, an MRI revealed a meniscus injury so severe it will keep him out for months, likely the entire season.

No doubt, the Titans hope the same thing will not happen here with Murray. To date, he’s been their workhorse back with 756 yards and six touchdowns rushing the ball.

That said, if he does have to miss time, at least Tennessee is prepared with Henry waiting in the wings.
