Colts pull off surprise onside kick

Chuck Pagano

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano is feeling some serious heat for his team’s early-season performance. Indy entered Week 7 last place in the AFC South with a 2-4 record and desperately needs to turn things around.

So it’s not surprising he is being aggressive right now. Pagano called for a surprise onside kick, already up 14-6 in the second quarter against the Tennessee Titans, and his players executed the gem of a call to perfection.

This play led to three more points to give Indianapolis a 17-6 lead midway through the second quarter.

If the Colts are going to make owner Jim Irsay look like a prophet for saying the season isn’t over yet (more on that here), they’ll need to continue making big plays. Unfortunately, they’ve been very poor at executing when the game is on the line this year, and they haven’t fared well against top teams.

A win Sunday against the Titans will help, but let’s not count our chickens before the eggs hatch. There is a lot of time left in this game.
