It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin officially declared Ben Roethlisberger out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
INJURY UPDATE
Out: Ben, Heyward, Wallace
Practice participation will be our guide: Wheaton, Shazier, M. Gilbert, Golden, Mitchell, DeAngelo— Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) October 18, 2016
Big Ben suffered a torn meniscus in his knee during Pittsburgh’s surprising loss to the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday. While he did return to close out the game, it became apparent shortly thereafter that Roethlisberger would require surgery.
The good news here is that a full repair of the knee ligament wasn’t needed, meaning that Pittsburgh’s franchise quarterback could very well be back following the team’s Week 8 bye.
Until then, the Steelers are going to have to roll with Landry Jones under center. That starts this upcoming weekend against Tom Brady and the Pats.
