Anquan Boldin slapped with $6k fine for throwing football into stands

Anquan Boldin

The touchdown that Detroit Lions wide receiver Anquan Boldin caught last weekend against Washington was the game-winning score.

And that is probably why Boldin won’t really care about the $6,076 fine he received after that game. Boldin was fined by the NFL for throwing the ball into the stands after he scored, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Apparently, it is acceptable in the NFL to hand a fan a football. Otherwise, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton would be forking over quite the big bucks in fines nearly every week. What is not acceptable is to throw the ball at fans.

Safety and other issues could easily come into play with people leaping over each other attempting to grab a souvenir ball.

Boldin’s touchdown marks the fourth of the season with his new team. More scores are sure to be enjoyed by Boldin and Lions fans, considering the pace at which Matthew Stafford throws the ball.

Boldin’s Lions are tied with the Green Bay Packers for second place in the NFC North with four wins.
