In the midst of a swirling controversy on the West Coast involving the national anthem, Tom Brady may have been staging a protest of his own involving the NFL shield decal.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting Brady has played the past two games with a helmet that did not have the NFL shield decal on it.

“In each of the final two preseason games of 2016, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady played in a helmet that did not have the NFL shield in the left rear portion of the helmet.”

The NFL has made it clear that it does not permit its players to remove the decal.

Now, the obvious question is this: Did Brady remove the decal or did the helmet never have the decal on it to begin with?

Either way, this could be seen as a form of protest towards Roger Goodell in light of Brady’s upcoming four-game suspension.

Not surprisingly, the NFL is not commenting at this time about Brady’s helmet.
