Stephen Curry on Colin Kaepernick: ‘I love that’

Playing in the same market as Colin Kaepernick, Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry was bound to get asked a question about the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback opting to not stand during the national anthem.

In an interview, Curry made it clear that he supports Kaepernick standing up for what he believes in.

“I love that. I mean, I love that there’s freedom of speech and that he can stand for what he believes in,” Curry said. “There’s gonna be people that disagree with him. People that agree with him, which I believe is what this country stands for.”

The right to agree or disagree with Kaepernick is undeniable. Kaepernick’s actions have led to a fair amount of healthy discussions regarding the issues he’s chosen to protest. If that continues, there’s certainly hope that the United States can improve in its quest for equality.

Unfortunately, Kaepernick’s stance has also brought a lot of name calling and mudslinging, which does nothing to advance any conversation. That only puts people on the defensive and less willing to actually hear what’s being said from the other side.

Curry is correct. If this sparks more healthy discussions, then the Kaepernick’s stated cause will be advanced.
