Report: Santa Clara Police Union threatens to stop working 49ers games

Colin Kaepernick

The Santa Clara Police Union has reportedly threatened to stop working San Francisco 49ers games if the team does not make changes regarding Colin Kaepernick and his police protest.

This is not the first time police have protested Kaepernick’s protest.

In response to the recent pictures that showed Kaepernick wearing socks that depicted police as pigs, Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, condemned the quarterback and the NFL for allowing him to express himself in such a way.

As most are likely aware by now, Kaepernick is protesting what he (and many others) feel is a trend of police brutality towards African-Americans and other minority groups.

He sat during the national anthem the first two preseason games without anyone noticing and then again in Week 3 when he was in uniform, sparking the national controversy.

He spoke in detail about his stance last Sunday during a nearly 20-minute media question-answer session (watch here).

Kaepernick once again chose not to stand on Thursday night, and this time he was joined by teammate Eric Reid, along with Jeremy Lane of the Seattle Seahawks.

Reid has vowed to continue kneeling with Kaepernick, and it seems safe to say they will be joined by other players around the league in the coming weeks.

This is going to be an interesting story to follow. If the movement continues to grow, will other police unions follow suit and threaten to not work games? Stay tuned.
