Report: Bills could shut Sammy Watkins down for several weeks

Sammy Watkins

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins simply can’t find a way to get over the injury bug that has plagued him thus far in his young career.

Watkins was out on the field in Sunday’s opener against the Baltimore Ravens, but didn’t look anything like the dynamic receiver we see when he’s healthy. Instead, he seemed more sluggish out there.

We now have a reason. According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, Watkins is playing through “severe discomfort” in the same foot that required off-season surgery.

Doctors are not recommending that Watkins undergo another procedure after X-rays did not reveal another break in the foot. Though, it’s now possible that Watkins, depending on his pain threshold, could miss at least the next several weeks of action.

Watkins, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, tallied 60 receptions for 1,047 yards and nine scores in 13 games last season. He did that despite battling injury after injury during the campaign. The former Clemson product recorded just four receptions for 43 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.
