Michael Bennett: Colin Kaepernick gives 49ers better chance to win

After facing a Blaine Gabbert-led San Francisco 49ers offense Sunday, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett came to the conclusion that Colin Kaepernick gives the 49ers a better chance to win games.

This is the same conclusion we came to after watching Gabbert throw away San Francisco’s chance to win last weekend in Carolina. One week later and we’re all the more convinced the former first-round bust needs to sit down.

Sunday in Seattle, Gabbert tallied just 119 yards on 14-of-25 passing with no touchdowns and an interception. He was hit just two times and was not sacked once, yet he was skittish in the pocket. He was also inaccurate on easy throws, and the 49ers converted just four of their 15 third-down attempts.

49ers fans are likely interested in seeing what Kaepernick can do once again as well. The Gabbert show has been a comedy of errors, and it sure looks like he’s reverting back to his Jacksonville days — sensing pressure that is not there and missing easy throws badly.

San Francisco’s passing offense is awful right now, which is all the more remarkable when you consider Chip Kelly’s system has been extremely kind to mediocre quarterbacks the past three years.

Averaging 177 yards, a touchdown and an interception per game so far, despite being sacked just two times this year, Gabbert needs to be relegated to the position of clipboard holder.

It’s time to unleash Kaepernick and see what he can do.
