In an article on ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy and NFL Vice President of International Mark Waller discussed the new London Stadium’s possible goal as the home of an NFL team.

It was previously announced by ESPN that the under-construction stadium would feature a retractable grass football pitch for the Premier League team, a synthetic surface for NFL teams and multiple sets of changing rooms.

Mark Waller told ESPN “One of the idle thoughts we have at the moment is would you really be able to play an NFL game and an EPL [English Premier League] game on the same day as a double header?”

The stadium might be built with double-header soccer in mind, but such investment surely means that a London-based NFL franchise is a possibility.

“I don’t think it’s something we’d want to try our first game, but that is certainly realistic. How exciting the idea of having the two biggest leagues in the world from a television perspective — fantastic! — play on the same day,” Levy said.

Regardless of whether a London franchise comes to fruition, it’s clear the NFL is going big in the UK with multiple live games at Wembley and Twickenham.

The question is, does the UK have a hunger for the sport?

Based on the success of live games at Wembley in the past, the answer is a resounding yes.
