Former NFL LB Napoleon Harris wards off muggers, suspected murderers

In addition to being a former NFL linebacker and current Illinois State Senator, Napoleon Harris also owns two pizza restaurants.

While delivering pizza’s one night, Harris came across an unoccupied house. The door was opened by four men who tried to attack the 6-foot-3, 250-pound former linebacker-turned-politician.

While it’s safe to say that these four men aren’t going to be spotted at any Mensa meetings, they’ve probably had better ideas.

“They really were trying to choke him to death,” Harris spokesman Sean Howard said, via Lauren Traut of The Orland Park Patch. Howard added that when one of the muggers punched Harris, the former NFL linebacker “just looked at him like Hulk Hogan.”

Instead of staying to fight, the four fled the scene and were followed by Harris, who called the police.

That’s where things get even more interesting.

Police later found the truck that the four men escaped in. Inside, they found clues that (per Trout) could possibly link Harris’ attackers to an even greater crime.

“Police found blood inside the back of the truck, which was registered to a man who had been reported missing in Fulton County, Georgia. He was later found dead — the blood in the truck proved to be his. With that evidence, and with Harris’ descriptions of the men, police tracked down the suspects. Two were stopped as they were stepping off a Megabus from Chicago. A third was found at a Georgia mental institution where he had checked himself in. A fourth man, who hails from Gary, Indiana, was held for 72 hours but later released. He has not yet been charged, but is likely to be charged in relation to the attack.”

These guys definitely picked the wrong guy to attack. From the sounds of things, it could have been step one in a chain of events that will land them in prison for a long time.

Harris himself played in the NFL from 2002-08 after being selected in the first round by the Oakland Raiders. The Northwestern grad has since turned his attention to public service, as evidenced by this recent incident.
