Chris Ivory out for Week 2, Jaguars ‘hopeful’ he can return in Week 3

Chris Ivory

After being released from the hospital earlier this week, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Ivory will miss Week 2 as he recovers. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media noted head coach Gus Bradley as saying the team is “hopeful” Ivory will be able to play in Week 3.

The Jaguars are headed to Southern California this weekend to take on the San Diego Chargers — a team that can put up points in a hurry.

Going into this game without the power running of Ivory puts the onus on second-year man T.J. Yeldon to come through on the ground. While Yeldon did manage to score a touchdown last week, he averaged just 1.9 yards per carry, and the team averaged 1.8 yards per attempt.

Another dismal outing like that could push the Jaguars down to 0-2 to begin the season.

Ivory was brought on board this offseason to be the lead back. Clearly, the offense is struggling without him on the ground.

And as talented as Jacksonville’s young passing attack clearly is, opposing defenses are more often than not going to find success against one-dimensional attacks.

Thankfully, Ivory appears to be on track for a healthy return next week. Until then, it’s going to be interesting to see if Jacksonville can pick up the slack.
