Chiefs’ Andy Reid calls out the Texans for flopping

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid cannot be happy with his team’s performance this past week. The Chiefs tallied less than 300 total yards en route to a 19-12 loss to the Houston Texans.

It was a game that saw Alex Smith under constant duress from J.J. Watt and Co.

Even then, Kansas City had an opportunity to pull within three points with under three minutes remaining in the final stanza.

Tyreek Hill scored on a 105-yard kick return to seemingly pull the Chiefs within four points. Unfortunately, Steven Nelson was called for a hold, negating the potentially game-turning score.

Reid himself is now taking issue with the on-field call.

“(Defensive back Charles James) knew he was outflanked, so he literally flopped,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “Nelson put his hands out, put him down and the kid just jumped into his body. Obviously from the officials’ perspective it didn’t look like that.”

To be fair, Reid definitely has a point here.

As CBS Sports pointed out, there doesn’t seem to be a hold here. Instead, it looks like James flopped to the ground on initial contact.

Whether this played an important role in the outcome of the game should be left up for interpretation. Kansas City ultimately ended up driving 76 yards on 10 plays en route to pulling the game within seven on a field goal.

After Houston recovered the ensuing onside kick, the team was able to kneel on the ball to get out of dodge with a win.
