Report: Lions fear Ameer Abdullah out for year with foot injury

Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah reportedly has a torn ligament in his left foot and could be out for the season, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Abdullah injured his foot during last weekend’s game against the Tennessee Titans. The injury occurred in the second quarter. The running back limped off the field and never returned to the game afterwards.

The Lions placed Abdullah on injured reserve. They have the option of bringing Abdullah back after eight weeks, should they choose to use their short-term designation on him. However, Schefter reports the team is expecting to be without its top back the rest of the year.

Before getting injured, Abdullah had tallied 101 yards on 18 carries and another 57 yards and a touchdown on five receptions.

In his stead, Theo Riddick should be leaned on heavily as the featured back, with Zach Zenner as his primary backup.
