Report: Vikings ‘strongly considering’ Mark Sanchez to replace Teddy Bridgewater

The Minnesota Vikings are scrambling to replace quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who was lost for the year with a terrible knee injury. One of the names that is now emerging as a strong candidate is Mark Sanchez, according to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole.

The Denver Broncos could make for an amenable trade partner. It was previously reported that Denver was looking to trade Sanchez anyway, and that he could be cut if that was not an option (more on that here).

The Dallas Cowboys have been in contact with Denver about Sanchez but don’t want to pay his full salary. Per Cole, the Vikings are more than willing to pay Sanchez the $4.5 million he’s owed for 2016.

Sanchez lost out to Trevor Siemian in the starting quarterback job for Denver. He threw one interception and lost two fumbles in limited action this preseason. At this time, the Broncos appear destined to live and die with Siemian and rookie Paxton Lynch, who is almost certain to play in 2016 at some point.

The Vikings have veteran Shaun Hill as Bridgewater’s backup. If no deal is struck to bring in another quarterback, he’s going to be starting. Hill has been a serviceable quarterback in the past, completing 62 percent of his passes throwing 49 touchdowns and 30 interceptions throughout his career.

One wonders, would Sanchez really be any better? The Vikings apparently aren’t convinced Hill can carry the load for 16 games, which is why they’re currently in scramble mode.
