Speedo cuts sponsorship ties with Ryan Lochte

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past week or so, you know Ryan Lochte was caught telling tall tales at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Creating an international incident after lying to his mom about what happened during a drunken night of partying, Lochte has been let go by sportswear company Speedo, which used to sponsor him.

As you can see by this statement issued by Speedo USA, not only is the company cutting ties with Lochte, but it is also donating $50,000 to the Save the Children charity.

Lochte and the other swimmers who got dragged into this debacle with him are likely facing disciplinary actions from the United States Olympic Committee.

Brazilian judges seized the passports of Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen over the weekend and banned them from leaving the country, but Lochte was already in the United States at the time (more on that here).

After the infamous video broke showing Lochte and the other swimmers at a gas station the night in question, it became clear Lochte’s story that they had been robbed at gunpoint was nothing more than a tall tale.

With this in mind, it’s not shocking whatsoever that Speedo has decided to stop sponsoring Lochte, who will likely see more of the same from his other sponsors in the future.
