Report: Shawn Oakman pleads not guilty to rape charge

Ex-Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman has reportedly pleaded not guilty in court after being charged with second-degree sexual assault in April.

TMZ broke this news on Friday.

“Oakman…just signed a waiver of arraignment with the McLennan County District Court, which means he’s entered a plea of not guilty.”

Oakman has maintained his innocence since the charges were levied against him this past spring. He has admitted to having sex with the alleged victim after the two of them spent time together at a nightclub but adamantly expressed it was consensual.

Oakman is giant of a man, standing at 6-foot-7 1/2 and weighing just under 270 pounds at the Senior Bowl.

He was at one time considered to be a top defensive prospect heading into the 2016 NFL Draft, but the alleged rape put an end to that rather quickly, as did the growing concern that he was more bark than bite on the football field.

Oakman ended up going undrafted and has not been an option for NFL teams to this point in light of the charge he is currently facing.
