Sean Payton: Head Coach & fantasy football guru

Sean Payton

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton does not play fantasy football. Though, if he did, it would appear that he would take a flyer on rookie wide receiver, Michael Thomas.

“I don’t follow fantasy football, but I’d try to have him, per Mike Triplett of ESPN.”

Over Thomas’ two-game starts during the preseason, he has tallied five catches for a total of 72 yards. Notably, two of Thomas’ receptions were for 20-plus yards.

For this, Thomas is surely being considered as a late-round stash by fantasy football enthusiasts who have yet to draft their team.

The Saints selected Thomas in the second round of this year’s draft after he racked up 781 yards receiving and nine touchdowns at Ohio State.  Thomas currently in the mix to be New Orleans’ third wide receiver along with Brandon Coleman.

When quarterback Drew Brees hits the field this September, he will have an excellent pedigree of wide receivers waiting to catch passes. Brandin Cooks stunned in his second full season and ranked 12th in fantasy points last year. Added Willie Snead IV and you’ve got some targets for Brees again in 2016.

The Saints offense should continue running like the well-oiled machine it was last year. If only the defense could get on the same page, New Orleans could rebound to contender status in the NFC South.
