The recent challenges of Robert Griffin III go well beyond changing teams and battling to become the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback. Griffin is, in fact, also going through a divorce.
“Griffin, signed by the Browns on March 24th, has been separated from his wife, of three years Rebecca Liddicoat for the past several months,” per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “And he’s in the process of filing for divorce, a league source told cleveland.com.”
There is no word on what might have caused the divorce. Griffin and his wife have a daughter, born in May of 2015. Per Cabot, “Griffin has informed his teammates and coaches of the divorce and everyone has been supportive.”
That certainly puts a different perspective on any problems he’s had in Cleveland, as well as possibly the end of his time with the Washington Redskins. One never knows how much an athlete’s personal life can interfere with his play on the field.
In this case, the starting quarterback battle and new team are probably serving to help Griffin keep his mind off of the struggles at home.
