Report: Tyler Eifert targeting return from ankle surgery in Weeks 4-6

Tyler Eifert

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is reportedly making progress healing from his May ankle surgery.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport said that Eifert has started jogging and the Bengals hope to have him back sometime between Weeks 4-6.

Rapoport speculated that Eifert might be able to return by Week 3, though the Bengals do not want to rush him. Eifert underwent surgery to repair a loose ligament in his ankle. He suffered this injury at the Pro Bowl last year and says he’ll never play in another Pro Bowl again.

The absence of Eifert for what could be longer than the first quarter of the season is certainly less than ideal for Cincinnati. Last year, Eifert had a breakout year when he managed 52 receptions for 615 yards and whopping 13 touchdowns, accomplished in just 13 games.

Quarterback Andy Dalton will now need to rely on other options in the red zone for the foreseeable future.

Eifert’s slow ease back into the game is not exactly fantastic news for fantasy football enthusiasts either as drafts take place.

Behind Eifert in depth on the Bengals depth chart awaits second-year tight end, Tyler Kroft, who is battling back from an injury of his own.

Kroft participated in all 16 games last year and tallied 11 catches for 129 yards and one touchdown. Hopefully, the Bengals can come up with solutions to make up for Eifert’s productivity until he returns to play.
