Report: James Jones signing with Chargers

Wide receiver James Jones is transitioning from the frozen tundra to the balmy climate of San Diego to sign with the Chargers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Tuesday.

This is likely in direct response to Stevie Johnson’s injury, which was sustained on Monday. He tore meniscus in his knee and requires surgery, and the extent of that injury will be determined while he’s under the knife.

Jones gives Rivers a tremendous downfield target to pair with free-agent acquisition Travis Benjamin, who also excels at deep routes.

Even if Johnson’s injury keeps him out for just a couple of weeks or so, Jones will be a big contributor for the Chargers catching passes from gunslinger Philip Rivers.

He caught 50 passes for 890 yards and eight touchdowns last year for the Green Bay Packers.

If Johnson is healthy for the 2016 season, the addition of Jones means Rivers will have four capable receiver, as Keenan Allen is one of the most exciting young receivers in the game.

Unfortunately, one thing Chargers fans won’t be seeing from Jones this year is his signature hoodie, which has been banned. They don’t call it the No Fun League for nothing.
