Redskins release high-priced DL Stephen Paea

The Washington Redskins made two rather interesting roster moves on Tuesday, releasing defensive end Stephen Paea and linebacker Perry Riley.

The release of Paea is most surprising here. Washington signed the former Chicago Bears defensive lineman to a four-year, $21 million last March. The 28 year old started just one game last season in D.C., recording 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Moving on from Riley is also interesting in that he’s started 63 games over the past five seasons. The former Redskins mid-round pick was limited to nine games (all starts) last season.

These moves are surely a sign that Washington is comfortable with the other options it has on the roster.
