WATCH: Notre Dame football practicing with robot tackle dummies

Notre Dame

For those who already fear the coming robot apocalypse, this isn’t likely welcome news. For the rest of us, it’s pretty freaking awesome. Notre Dame football is practicing with robot tackle dummies this summer.

The folks at Bleacher Report put together a short video to highlight the fun being had during practice as the players are chased by and chase down these robotic dummies.

The Fighting Irish enter the 2016 college football season with some high expectations after going 10-3 last year, despite suffering heavy casualties on both sides of the ball. Head coach Brian Kelly has turned the program around in a major way since coming on board in 2010.

We covered the many ways Notre Dame is adjusting to the 21st century last season (more on that here).

Now we’re starting to see the program embrace the future.

Now, we’re not yet sure if anything productive will come out of these exercises, other than the fact that this is safer than players tackling one another. But one thing is certain here: We’d love an invitation to strap on some pads and give it a whirl.
