Jed York glad Colin Kaepernick didn’t talk to Seahawks about trade

NFL free agent

It was just a few months ago that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, seeking a trade, met with the Denver Broncos. Though eventually, the Broncos were not willing to pay Kap anything near to what he was seeking salary-wise and ended their pursuit.

Had Kap ended up with the Broncos, 49ers CEO Jed York might have been okay with that. However, York would have taken issue had the quarterback ventured up to Seattle to see what the Seahawks could do for him.

Not that anything would have come of that, since the Seahawks are quite content with Russell Wilson.

Obviously there is no love lost between the two NFC West divisional foes. The 49ers have been playing second fiddle (or third, or fourth) to the Seahawks for the past few seasons.

As things stand now for Kaepernick, he and Blaine Gabbert will be receiving equal reps in practice while the two compete to win the starting job in September. Head coach Chip Kelly has not tipped his hand about favoring either quarterback over the other.

We will have to see how the first few preseason games play out to get an idea as to whether Kaepernick has improved enough after last year’s debacle to earn his starting job back.

Of course, Seattle fans can only shudder at the thought of Kap suiting up in Seahawks blue and lime green, backing up Wilson on the sidelines.
