Eagles K Caleb Sturgis hit in the head with punt

The Philadelphia Eagles will not have the services of placekicker Caleb Sturgis for their preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. What’s notable isn’t that Sturgis is out, but why.

Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer was one of several to report that Sturgis was hit in the head by an errant punt during pregame warmups.

The injury will open the door for Cody Parkey, who’s expected to do the kicking.

Sturgis is in his second year with the Eagles after playing his first two years with the Miami Dolphins.

Both Sturgis and Parkey kicked in the team’s opening preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both kickers were one-for-one in extra points. Sturgis added a 42-yard field goal.
