Chargers, Joey Bosa reportedly close to a resolution

Joey Bosa has a lot to prove heading into NFL Week 5

The drawn-out contract stalemate between rookie first-round pick Joey Bosa and the San Diego Chargers could soon come to a conclusion.

Even amid a public war of words, it looks like the two sides could be close to a resolution.

“There were whispers Sunday that the sides are close to reaching a resolution. And for whatever brave face the Chargers could muster after the game about the players they have, Bosa’s arrival will be welcomed with a sigh of relief,” Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

This fits tightly in with a photo an employee of the Chargers shared over the weekend.

If the Chargers and their star defensive end were to come to an agreement here soon, it might enable him to play in the team’s final preseason game on Thursday. Though, that seems to be highly unlikely.

Now that he’s sat throughout training camp and the preseason, the Ohio State product is behind the proverbial eight-ball. Even if he were to sign on the dotted line, there’s a good chance Bosa would not be able to make much of an impact early in the season.

More than anything, the contract stalemate has surrounded off-set money. San Diego wants to protect itself should it have to release Bosa before his rookie contract expires. Meanwhile, the pass rusher is playing the hard line here.

It will be interesting to see if something happens here before the start of the regular season. If not, we might not see Bosa in a Chargers uniform at all during the 2016 campaign.
