Aaron Lynch injured during joint practices with Broncos

During joint practices between the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos leading up to their preseason game last week, things got a bit testy.

San Francisco linebacker Aaron Lynch detailed a specific altercation with different Broncos linemen.

“I was getting into it, beating up on one of their centers,” Lynch said, per Matt Maiocco, CSN Bay Area. “They were all hitting me with helmets. They ripped my helmet off. One poked me in the eye and tried to punch me, and one hit me with his helmet.”

Fights are certainly not uncommon in those settings. A majority of the players are competing for starting spots or even spots on the roster.

It’s not strange to see fights break out when players are practicing against potential teammates. In the joint practices, when the opponents are not teammates, it’s only natural that things will get even more heated. It’s actually a surprise that more serious fights like this one don’t happen more in preseason practices.

The good news for Lynch is that, while the fight left him with a swollen eye that kept him out of the game, he now says that “everything is cool.”

Lynch is also suspended for the 49ers’ first four games of the regular season, so he’ll have plenty of time to rest up.
