Wizards acquire Trey Burke from the Jazz

The Washington Wizards were unable to land Al Horford in free agency. That came after the team didn’t even get an opportunity to sit down with native son Kevin Durant.

It’s been a somewhat frustrating past few days for a team that struggled to remain relevant in the Eastern Conference a season ago.

Attempting to do whatever they can to improve a roster that surprisingly missed the playoffs in 2015-16, the Wizards have reportedly acquired former top-10 pick Trey Burke from the Utah Jazz.

The deal reportedly sends a second-round pick back to Utah.

Burke, 23, became expendable after the Jazz acquired George Hill from the Indiana Pacers in a three-team deal earlier this summer.

The Michigan product has struggled a great deal shooting the ball in his three seasons as a pro, shooting at a 38 percent clip during that span.

He has, however, averaged 10-plus points in each of his first three seasons and is coming off a 2015-16 campaign that saw him shoot at a career best 38 percent from three-point range. Burke averaged 10.6 points in 64 games for the Jazz a season ago.

It’s likely Burke will act as John Wall’s primary backup in D.C. It’s definitely a fresh start for the still young point guard.
