Sammy Watkins already running, looks fast as foot recovers

Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins appears to be on the right track for a quick recovery after breaking his foot this offseason.

His status for training camp is still up in the air, with the latest news being that Watkins was non-committal about being able to participate. At the time, however, Watkins hadn’t been able to run on his injured foot in weeks. Now he’s looking pretty fast running in a straight line.

Being able to run straight isn’t the same as the kind of torque and tension he’ll need to be able to endure during training camp and the regular season, though. With that in mind, it’s impossible to say that he’s going to be ready for that kind of action in the next month.

Buffalo would be smart to take things slowly as it concerns this foot injury. As we’ve seen so many times in the past, players who attempt to come back from a foot injury too fast oftentimes end up re-injuring themselves.

The Bills will need Watkins to be fully healthy for the long season to have a chance to contend for one of the six AFC playoff spots. He was a major contributor last year, catching 60 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns.
