Top Astros prospect Alex Bregman suggests he’ll be called up Friday

One of baseball’s best prospects may be making his way to the Majors soon. In an interview on Tuesday, Houston Astros star prospect Alex Bregman was asked who he may be making his debut against. Bregman’s answer hinted that his arrival may be forthcoming.

“I don’t know,” Bregman said to Sean Pendergast, Rich Lord and Ted Johnson on SportsRadio 610. “I think he’s wearing red and gray. I don’t know.”

Bregman also ended the interview saying, “see you soon.”

On Friday, the Astros are set to open a three-game series in Houston against the Los Angeles Angels. The Halos, of course, wear red and gray.

Between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno, Bregman is having a monster year in the minors. He’s slashing at .310/.412/.599, has hit 20 home runs, scored 69 runs, driven in 61 and stolen seven bases. Houston, who is contending, could certainly use that kind of production.

The primary concern for Bregman — a shortstop — is where he’ll play in the field. With Carlos Correa occupying shortstop and Jose Altuve manning second, Houston’s middle infield positions are set for a long time.

The most likely position would be third base. Bregman has played 11 games at the hot corner this year.
