New York Yankees reportedly looking to be sellers on trade market

The New York Yankees currently find themselves with a .500 record and 7.5 games out of first place in the American League West. The team is also five games out of the final wild card spot.

With about two weeks remaining until the August 1st non-waiver trade deadline, it now appears that the Yankees are in full-scale fire-sale mode.

It goes without saying that both Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller will be the two-top targets for contending teams. We actually focused on that possibility just recently.

If that’s the case, New York should be able to find itself a nice little haul for these two dominant relievers.

Despite his off-field issues, Chapman has been among the best overall pitchers in the game this season. He boasts a 3-0 record with a 2.22 ERA and 0.92 WHIP while striking out nearly 13 batters per nine innings in the season.

Interestingly enough, it was Chapman who replaced Miller as the Yankees’ closer when the former was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds during the winter.

Though, Miller hasn’t been anywhere near a slouch himself. He joined Chapman at the All-Star Game earlier this summer and has posted a 1.31 ERA to go with a 0.73 WHIP in 40 appearances thus far this year.

There’s absolutely no reason to believe that these will be the only two players on a veteran-laden roster that contending teams will show interest in.

It was reported over the weekend that New York had discussions with the Kansas City Royals about sending Carlos Beltran back to his original team. We have no idea how recent those talks were, but it stands to reason he’s also going to be on the chipping block.

The likes of Brian McCann and CC Sabathia are names that could also be bandied about between now and the trade deadline early next month.
