Report: New York Jets Re-Sign Ryan Fitzpatrick

The New York Jets have reportedly re-signed veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year, $12 million contract.

This comes on the heels of other reports suggesting that talks were heating up between the two sides (more on that here).

Getting Fitzpatrick back in the mix as training camp opens is absolutely huge for the Jets. If the two sides had not come to terms following a long stalemate, the team would have been forced to go with Geno Smith under center.

Fitzpatrick, 33, put up a stellar 2015 season en route to leading the Jets to a surprising 10-win campaign. All said, he tallied over 3,900 passing yards with 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Looking to close the gap between themselves and the New England Patriots in the AFC East, it was important for the Jets to get Fitzpatrick back in the mix.

Interestingly enough, the deal only calls for one year of guarantees. That’s something the Jets had been pushing throughout the negotiating process.

With options dwindling, Fitzpatrick seemingly took the same offer that was on the table months back.
