Report: Denard Robinson, asleep at the wheel, drives car into pond

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Early Saturday morning, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson was asleep at the wheel when his car went into a retention pond.

Both Robinson and the female passenger who was with him escaped the accident unharmed, per Action News Jacksonville. Robinson was also not impaired in any way, and no citations were issued.

The accident was extremely scary, however.

Both Robinson and the female passenger with him were passed out when police arrived at the scene while the car was sinking into the pond.

“The driver was passed out during this whole process. I was able to wake the driver but had to turn the vehicle off and remove his seatbelt. The driver thought he was on a road and did not want to exit the vehicle,” the police report said. “I had to tell the driver multiple times his car was in a pond and was sinking so he needed to hurry up and get out,” the report continued.

In the end, Robinson was able to escape via his window opening on the passenger side as his side of the car was already submerged.

Robinson sent out his thoughts on the matter Tuesday morning on his Twitter account.

Entering his fourth year out of Michigan, the former quarterback has found a niche as a complementary back with the Jaguars. He has rushed for 914 yards and five touchdowns, adding 288 receiving yards in his first three seasons.
