LeBron James hints Cavs won’t match Bucks for Matthew Dellavedova

LeBron James might have some inside information about the Cleveland Cavaliers’ plans for Matthew Dellavedova, who is a restricted free agent.

News broke on Friday that the Milwaukee Bucks were going to offer Dellavedova a four-year contract worth $38 million, per Zach Lowe of ESPN, much to the surprise of pretty much everyone. That report was later confirmed by reporters from all the major outlets.

Not long afterwards, James sent this congratulatory message to Delly and his family, via Twitter:

Yeah, he’s gone.

In all seriousness, though, nobody should expect the Cavs to match the offer Dellavedova received from the Bucks. It’s not happening.

After all, this is a guy who didn’t even play a single minute during Game 7 of the NBA Finals. He also didn’t hardly factor at all in the series after the first two games.

Dellavedova averaged just 7.5 points, 4.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game during the regular season. Those numbers went significantly down during the postseason when he averaged 3.9 points, 2.8 assists per game.

That any team would be willing to pay Delly $9.5 million per season is kind of unthinkable. Perhaps just knowing there is no way the Cavaliers would be interested in matching, or perhaps because he does have some inside information, James wasted no time saying goodbye.

Let’s hope the Bucks don’t experience buyer’s remorse next season when purchasing a “winner” doesn’t pan out the way they hoped it would.
