Former Iowa lineman Kyle Calloway killed after being struck by train

Former Iowa offensive lineman Kyle Calloway was struck by a train and killed on Saturday while jogging on the tracks near Vail, Ariz.

He was 29 years old.

According to the Tuscon News, “Police determined that Calloway was jogging westbound, on and off the tracks, when he was struck from behind by the westbound train.”

Union Pacific will be handling the investigation, per the report.

His father, Ed Calloway, says Kyle regularly exercised in this way.

“That was what he did for exercise,” said Kyle’s father, Ed Calloway, via The Gazette. “He liked to run and it had rained the day before and the area where he ran was muddy, and so he was going back and forth across the tracks to get out of the mud.

Calloway played for the Iowa Hawkeyes for three seasons, starting 37 of his last 38 games before attempting to make it in the NFL. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2010.
