Coach K on DeMarcus Cousins: ‘He’s gotten in unbelievable shape’

DeMarcus Cousins

It was reported earlier this summer that Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins has lost 33 pounds since the end of the 2015-16 season.

That’s a somewhat absurd number considering we’re talking about a two-month span since his drama-filled season came to an end.

Now looking to take home the gold in the Summer Olympics as a member of Team USA’s basketball squad, Cousins has apparently impressed head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who indicated that the All-Star has “gotten himself in unbelievable” shape for the event.

The Duke head coach also indicated that his relationship with Cousins is “really good.”

All this positivity surrounding Cousins is just a tad foreign to those who have followed him throughout his six-year career with the Kings. It definitely does lead one to wonder whether George Karl was the problem in Sacramento.

Then again, Coach K is the Team USA head man for a reason. His ability to work with college kids at Duke is by now well known.

As it is, we should definitely be paying attention to a more slimmed-down and seemingly mentally invested Cousins during the Olympics. As one of the top centers in the NBA, he has the ability to dominate the tourney.
