Buccaneers guard Dominique Robertson shot, detained by police

Dominique Robertson, an un-drafted free agent of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, seems to be going through some major off-field stuff as he prepares for his first training camp in the NFL.

The guard was reportedly shot early Thursday morning in Southern California and taken to a hospital. While Robertson was eventually released, he found himself immediately detained by authorities in Loma Linda, a city in San Bernardino County.

The following report comes The Press Enterprise in Southern California.

“Dominique Robertson, who played at Redlands East Valley High and Riverside City College before signing a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was hospitalized in Loma Linda early Thursday morning with gunshot wounds and detained by authorities upon his Friday evening release, according to his mother and attorney.”

Robertson’s attorney, Zulu Ali, later claimed that his client was detained for questioning without them notifying him.

“There was never any indication that they were speaking to him because they were implicating him in anything,” he said. “They just held him for five hours and really nothing was said other than, ‘I want to speak to my attorney.'”

In terms of the specific situation, there really isn’t much more information available.

Robertson was eventually released by local authorities at 11:30 p.m. on Friday after being detained for over five hours.

According to the local sheriff’s department, Robertson’s injuries are to the back, buttocks and leg.

Robertson played college ball at West Georgia before failing to hear his name called in the draft this past spring. He’s considered a long shot to make the Buccaneers’ roster.
