Brett Favre on Derek Carr comparisons: ‘He’s a little bit more polished’

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre took time out from watching the San Francisco Giants play Wednesday evening to discuss Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

Outside of it being a bit odd to see Favre donning a hat of a San Francisco-based team, his comments regarding Carr might be the most-surprising part of the interview

When asked to respond to comparisons some have made between Carr and himself, the all-time great signal caller had this to say.

“I don’t know if I’d consider him a gunslinger, he’s a little bit more polished, and I mean that will all due respect,” Favre said, via CSN Bay Area. “I think he’s done a tremendous job with Oakland. I like the way he plays.”

That’s some pretty high praise if we’ve ever heard it.

We completely get the gist of what Favre is saying here. By concluding that Carr is a gunslinger, one is arguing that he takes a ton of chances on the field and turns the ball over a whole heck of a lot.

It was really one of the only criticism one could throw Favre’s way throughout his tremendous 20-year career. He led the NFL in interceptions twice and ranks first on the all-time list with 336 career picks.

The same criticism can’t be thrown Carr’s way. The third-year signal caller has thrown 25 interceptions in his first two seasons while tossing the rock a combined 1,172 times during that span.

Carr is coming off a Pro Bowl campaign that saw him put up nearly 4,000 yards with 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing over 61 percent of his passes.

The undisputed franchise guy in Oakland, Carr looks to lead his Raiders to the playoffs in 2016 after the team put up a surprising seven-win 2015 campaign. If he lives up to this mighty high praise, that might just happen.
