Andrew Heaney slams Kevin Durant for choosing Warriors

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney is not happy that Kevin Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors. He made his feelings known Monday morning in a rather salty tweet.

Heaney also added that he wants Draymond Green to welcome Durant to the Warriors in a slightly less than chivalrous way.

It’s worth noting that Heaney was born in Oklahoma City and grew up in the nearby area. So, he’s a Thunder fan and not just a random athlete popping off. It makes a little more sense with that knowledge.

Still, this is not something that professional athletes should be chiming in on.

First of all, an athlete never knows what position he will be in when his contract comes up. What Heaney says now may end up looking hypocritical down the road. We know this because only six years ago, Kevin Durant fired off this beauty.

Secondly, is Heaney critical of ringless players who sign with great baseball teams? Granted, baseball is a less certain sport than basketball. Still, a great player on a perpetually losing team may be inclined to sign with a strong team at some point.

What if Heaney himself does that some day? What if Heaney one day Heaney plays on a glamour franchise? Would free agents signing there face his criticism?

Being a bitter OKC fan is fine and expected. But as another pro athlete without a ring, words have a funny way of coming back around.
