Rex Ryan upon completion of minicamp: ‘We’ve won the offseason’

It is not even July, and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan is already throwing some bold comments out there for us to absorb.

Following the completion of the team’s minicamp, Ryan summed up its progress with this.

“We’ve won the off-season,” Ryan said per Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News. “I would challenge any team. I think we’ve won the off-season. But we need to win July. That’s when everybody is by themselves, on their own but doing the things to be in great shape when we get to camp, let’s avoid those injuries we had last year.”

Per the report, Ryan would rather forget about vacation for the next five weeks and get on with July training camp.

What Ryan seems to have glossed over is all of the issues Buffalo has had to deal with over the past several months.

Star wide receiver Sammy Watkins is recovering from a broken foot. Running back LeSean McCoy is dealing with ankle and hamstring injuries. Meanwhile, rookie pass rusher and first-round pick Shaq Lawson will be on the PUP list after undergoing post-draft surgery on his right shoulder.

This doesn’t even take into account second-year running back Karlos Williams, who gained a bunch of weight since the end of his rookie campaign.

In any regard, it is always nice to know that Ryan is the type of guy who sees the glass half-full rather than half-empty.

The Bills will certainly have their work cut out for them once training camp and the preseason kick off.

Buffalo has not earned a playoff spot since the Bill Clinton Administration (1999). It’s now hoping to finally play in a postseason game before the former president’s wife potentially takes over at the White House in January.

If there is anything we can ascertain from Ryan, is that he is surely the most enthusiastic and entertaining coach in the NFL. This positive attitude has to be seen as a good thing.
