Report: Seahawks sign Doug Baldwin to four-year extension

The Seattle Seahawks might have a couple contract dilemmas on their hands, but they made sure on Tuesday not to prolong the Doug Baldwin situation any longer.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle has signed top wide receiver Doug Baldwin to a four-year contract extension.

Baldwin, 27, is coming off a breakout 2015 campaign that saw him record career highs in receptions (78), receiving yards (1,069) and touchdowns (14). That touchdown total also led all NFL receivers.

While Baldwin’s numbers were absolutely tremendous last season, he did the bulk of his damage in the second half of the campaign when the team moved him to the slot.

All said, the Stanford product put up 11 of his 14 scores in the final six games of the season. Also not a coincidence, this occurred when then rookie Tyler Lockett as given more playing time on the outside.

According to a later report from Schefter, the deal is said to be worth “north of $11 million per year.”  This would make Baldwin, who was entering his contract year, one of the eight highest-paid receivers in the game. Not a bad chunk of change for a former un-drafted free agent.
