Report: Nate Robinson trying out as DB for Seahawks

The Legion of Boom may be getting a new member. In an attempt to earn an NFL contract, former NBA player Nate Robinson is trying out for his hometown Seattle Seahawks.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport later reported that Robinson will be trying out as a defensive back.

Give Robinson credit. When he goes for something, he goes all out.

We’ve known that he was going to try out for the NFL for quite some time, so that’s not terribly surprising. Robinson trying out for the Seahawks, however, is a bit hard to believe.

Seattle’s secondary is about as good as it gets in the NFL. Earning a spot on any NFL team will be difficult for Robinson, but becoming a member of the Legion of Boom is an even greater challenge.

Not only is the Legion of Boom great, but they’re also big. The two listed starting cornerbacks — Richard Sherman and DeShawn Shead — are listed at 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-2. Safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas are at 6-foot-3 and 5-foot-10. Robinson is only 5-foot-9 and is more than 20 pounds lighter than Thomas, the shortest LOB member.

Because of that, if Robinson is even going to be considered for a contract, he’ll need to be fantastic in his tryout. Given that he’s 5-foot-9 and had a decent NBA career, Robinson may not be a guy to bet against.
