Famous Browns QB jersey to be retired

The Cleveland Cavaliers won their first NBA championship in the history of the franchise, and it sparked new hope for sports fanatics that their city is not a complete failure when it comes to sports.

Hence, the famous Browns’ jersey that houses the names of the 24 starting quarterbacks the team has seen since 1999 has been retired. The owner of the jersey, Tim Brokaw stated this as the reason to put the jersey to rest.

“Not exactly how we planned it,” Brokaw said, per Pat McManamon of ESPN. “But after last night’s historic performance, we realized all negative energy and bad juju should be eliminated from The Land.” Brokaw, Inc., announced the “retirement” on its Twitter and Instagram pages Monday afternoon. With the announcement was a photo that had all the names of the quarterbacks eliminated.”

Per the report, Brokaw typically displayed the jersey in the window of his advertising agency. It was an utterly tacky, but brilliant piece of artwork that had the names the Browns’ past starting quarterbacks written in sharpie over duct tape underneath Tim Couch’s name.

Since the Cavaliers’ big win, the jersey has been doctored to read only “Cleveland” across the top above the No. 2. We can only imagine how many rolls of white duct tape it took to eliminate the names.

Brokaw is likely not the only Cleveland fan of the mindset that the Browns are destined for greatness following the Cavaliers victory.

Sadly the reality is that the Browns haven’t won a championship since 1964. They haven’t even seen the playoffs since President George W. Bush’s second year in office in 2002.

Regarding the jersey, it looks like Robert Griffin III or whoever wins the starting job this summer received a hall pass from gracing that former classy-looking jersey.
